February and March are a busy time in band... Jazz festival, MPA, student accounts due - there is a lot going on. We'll do our best to make sure we let you know what you need to know.
Let's dig into what I have for this week.
Here's what I have for you all this week:
Student Accounts - Quick note about paying student accounts - 3 1/2 weeks left!
Jazz Festival Saturday Concert - This is a great community event, with opportunity to hear some world-class musicians
Jazz Festival Help - There are still a few open slots available, and please keep those concessions donations coming
Volunteer Opportunities - Active volunteering opportunities listed here
A word from Mr. Sayre - As always, make sure to read through his section
Wednesday 2/5
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM - Color Guard Sectional
7:00 PM - Basketball Game vs. Capital (Band A) - Report Time: 6:15 PM
Thursday 2/6
4:00 PM - 6:00 PM - Percussion Sectionals
Saturday 2/8
1:00 PM - Basketball Game vs. Manzano (Band B) - Report Time: 12:15 PM
There is just 3 1/2 weeks left to get your student accounts paid - due by Feb 27th.
Please note, if you choose to send a check, either in the gray box in the band room or by mail, it may take a few weeks to get that deposited and credited to your account. This month we will try and stay on top of it more frequently, but it may still be at least a week, so please bear with us.
We end Jazz Festival on Saturday night with a concert. This is an opportunity to bring together the community, and hear some world class musicians.
This year, we have UNM Jazz I featuring Lewis Nash, and the Albuquerque Jazz Orchestra featuring Joey Tartell. You can read more about these amazing musicians, and pre-order tickets to the event, on the Jazz Festival Saturday Concert page.
There is also a Facebook Event that you can share to get the word out: https://www.facebook.com/share/1F421pczTx/
We still have a few signup slots available to for volunteering during Jazz Festival. Click on the link below to see if there is one that fits your schedule.

Additionally, we sell concessions during the event to students and families that are attending the performances. We rely on donations from you all to make that a success. If everyone brings one donation, we'll have plenty of concessions to last the entire event. Please donate according to the following:
Freshmen - Drinks (please, no bottled water, we have plenty of that already)
Sophomores/Seniors - Candy/Sweets (individually wrapped and no "small" candies like minis or individually wrapped mints - they are difficult to sell)
Juniors - Salty Snacks (individually wrapped)
Items can be dropped of at school in the band room.
Here are the current active signups available. You can also always see any open volunteering opportunities on the Volunteering page.

Hello, Eagles!
We are officially in one of the busiest times of the year, and we’re so proud of the work you’re putting in to make our performances the best they can be! With the Albuquerque/UNM Jazz Festival just a week and a half away and Concert MPA coming up in just over a month, now is the time to stay focused, be present at rehearsals, and put in the extra effort.
Albuquerque/UNM Jazz Festival
The Jazz Festival is almost here! We have a limited number of volunteer slots available, starting with band officers and leadership, followed by jazz band students. If any spots remain, we will open sign-ups to the rest of the band. Only students who are signed up for a particular time will be allowed to volunteer.
Additionally, all EHS students will be required to attend the Saturday afternoon performances and see the Educator Big Band. Please make sure you also promote the featured guest concert with Joey Tartell and Lewis Nash—this will be an incredible opportunity to hear world-class musicians!
Concert MPA Preparation
With Concert MPA quickly approaching, preparation is key. Section leaders are responsible for coordinating sectionals for Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band. These can be held after school any day of the week. A little extra time working with your section will go a long way!
This Week’s Schedule
Wednesday, February 5th – Color Guard Class after school. The girls' basketball game is also this evening. Call time for the band is 6:15 PM—make sure to wear your band shirt!
Thursday, February 6th – Percussion Class from 4:00–6:00 PM.
Saturday, February 8th – Another girls' basketball game. Call time is 12:15 PM.
Thank you all for your hard work and dedication as we move through this busy season. Keep up the great work, stay on top of rehearsals, and let’s continue to push forward together!
Go Eagles!
Mr. Sayre
