Weekly Newsletter - OCTOBER 1, 2023
Band-tober is officially here! It's time for the whirlwind that is October and marching band.
I was personally very impressed with the performance this past Friday night. The show is really coming together, and I'm sure even more progress was made yesterday during the all-day rehearsal.
Once again, thanks to all our parent volunteers that helped out on Friday (as well as the rehearsal on Saturday). We will have plenty of volunteer opportunities coming up with games, competitions, and assessments all on the horizon this month. See the volunteering section below (ALWAYS on the website) for ways you can help out this month - especially for MPA. We have a real need there.
What's in this newsletter?
Here's what I have for you all this week:
Volunteer Opportunities - weekly list of open volunteer opportunities - We need a bunch more volunteers for the MPA event - please consider signing up.
And a word from Mr. Sayre - as always, make sure you read through this section. Important note about Allstate auditions.
5:30 PM - 6:30 PM - Color Guard Sectional
6:00 PM - MPA Volunteer Session in the Band Room. As this is a new volunteering opportunity for us, this session is for those that are volunteering to help run the Marching Performance Assessment
Football Game - Sandia (Away) - Wilson Stadium - Call Time: 5:00 PM. Also, this is our 8th grade night. We will be hosting a ton of 7th/8th grade kids from our feeder middle schools to come play with the band. This is a great time to introduce them to the fun of HS marching band and encourage them to join us when they become freshmen in the future.
1:00 PM - ~9:45 PM - Los Lunas Invitational. This is our first major performance of the season, and for all our new marchers, their very first major performance. Please read through the itinerary to know the schedule for that day and the expectations of the students.
Here is a list of all active volunteer opportunities. These are also always available on the Volunteering page.
URGENT - we really need more volunteers to help run the marching performance assessment event, and for those that have signed up for that, remember there is a meeting this Wed evening to discuss the details.
Have a great week!
AND a word from Mr. Sayre...
Hello Eagle Band Community!
A huge shout-out goes to the parents and volunteers that helped us out all day on Saturday and to the University of New Mexico Spirit Marching Band for joining us at the game and supporting our band on Friday. Also, great work at rehearsal on Saturday. That was one of the final steps in putting the show together. Now we need to clarify and review the additions to the show and make it great for Saturday's performance at the Los Lunas Invitational. Here is some information for you about some upcoming deadlines and performances this week:
Allstate Audition Registration is this week!
The directors will have a sign up sheet. The Allstate audition material is also what we will use for Wind Ensemble and Symphonic Band auditions and every member of the band must learn the etudes anyway for a grade. Despite whether you believe you can make Allstate or not, the audition process has a lot of educational value for you as a musician.
8th Grade Game Friday!
We will be welcoming many students from the middle school to our band. This is a great opportunity to keep the band growing and to have some fun playing with some guests.
Los Lunas Invitational Itinerary for Saturday:
Here is the itinerary for Saturday's rehearsal and performance. Unloading the truck from the game before will start at 12:15 so we can start rehearsal on time. Call time will be 1:00pm in the afternoon on the field for a short rehearsal and run through.
Here is the plan for the week
