Weekly Newsletter - OCTOBER 8, 2023

Congratulations to the students on a great performance yesterday, dare I say, superior?  We are all very proud of all your hard work.

We have a lighter week this week, with Monday/Friday having no school, and having no games or competitions this weekend!  Use this time to rest and regenerate your energy for the last push through the second half of October.  But we DO have a concert Wednesday night with our Concert Band and Jazz Bands.  I look forward to seeing everyone there to support these ensembles.

We do also have one important thing happening this week...  It is uniform cleaning time, so make sure you read through the detail of that below to avoid a cleaning fee.  This will ensure our uniforms are nice and clean for our remaining competitions.

What's in this newsletter?

Here's what I have for you all this week:

This week in band...

Monday 10/9

Tuesday 10/10

Wednesday 10/11

Thursday 10/12

Friday 10/13

Now on to the details...

Uniform Update/Cleaning

Per the uniform section of our band handbook, this coming week is our uniform cleaning time.  Take your bibs to be professionally dry cleaned, and email a copy of the receipt to our uniform chairs at uniforms@eldorado.band.  IMPORTANT: Make sure to write your students first AND last name on the receipt.  To avoid a $25 fee assessed to the student account, make sure to turn in your receipt by Tuesday, October 16th.  Some common places to get your bibs cleaned are American Pride Cleaners, Suzie N Cleaners and Whiting Cleaners.

Our uniform Chair Kathleen currently had about 4 pair of bibs in for repairing the hems. These will be retuned to the band room early next week - she is shooting for Tuesday.  However, we are also aware of a few more pair of bibs out there in need of repair - we know at least 2 hems have fallen out and have been safety pinned in place.  We would appreciate it if you would check with your student and verify if any repairs need to be completed, preferably before dry cleaning.  If there are hems that need fixed, pants are too long or too short, any rips in any seams, please let Kathleen know asap and we’ll get those done this week. Again, her email is uniforms@eldorado.band.

Yearbook Photos

A quick message from Beth, our yearbook chair:

Thank you for emailing band pictures!  Band family, please share your favorite pictures from the Los Lunas Invitational. Students, I would love to share your fun selfies, etc. in the yearbook. Send them to yearbooks@eldorado.band.

Volunteer Opportunities

Here is a list of all active volunteer opportunities.  These are also always available on the Volunteering page.  Newly added are MPA chaperones and Rio Rancho.

Have a great week!

AND a word from Mr. Sayre...

Hello Eagle Band Community!

What an outstanding (SUPERIOR) performance at the Los Lunas Invitational!  Another big thank you to our parents and friends volunteers for making the day a great success. You have put together quite a show and now we will just need to bring a few things to the next level for the upcoming performances.  We have 4 performances left of this show! Here is a youtube link to the performance from Saturday.  The band made great progress toward making the show even better.  We also have a concert this Wednesday evening.

A few announcements for the week:

On the topic of Marching Band Events: It is worth clarifying for our community that the Los Lunas Invitational and events like it are meant to be non-competitive in nature.  Bands are not compared to one another to determine a placement.  These events are held so that all performing bands can come and receive positive instructional feedback AND have an opportunity to get a rating rather than a rank.  Think of it like going to a math test where all the people taking the test have an equitable opportunity to get an A+.  Our goal with any performance is to do OUR best and be better than what we have performed prior for every performance opportunity.

Behavior at games and marching events: The directors have heard multiple reports of students representing the band poorly with foul language and questionable behavior at games and at the Los Lunas Invitational.  At the 8th grade night some of our students were using obscene language in front of our 8th grade guests.  Integrity starts by making good choices even when you think you can get away with it.  I believe Mr. Snowden and I have made it absolutely clear that we do not tolerate this behavior or language.  Making poor language choices, like using obscene words and phrases, will be dealt with accordingly by the directors.  If this is not you that is using foul language but someone you know I suggest you say something because these people are also representing your band.  This is a core principle of having Eagle Pride.

Concert this Wednesday:  Call time is 5:00pm and the concert starts at 6:30pm.  Students will wear their Carnevil band shirt and blue jeans.
