Weekly Newsletter - january 21, 2024

Congratulations to our Jazz All-State students for putting on some great concerts this weekend.  You all did a great job, and clearly put in a ton of work in a short period of time.

Right now, Jazz Festival is our focus, so see concession donation and volunteer signup information below, and we could still use some more sponsorships.  And don't forget to take a break for pizza this Wed evening at Slice Parlor!

Let's get to it...

What's in this newsletter?

Here's what I have for you all this week:

This week in band...

Wednesday 1/24

Thursday 1/25

Friday 1/26

Now on to the details...

Jazz Festival Sponsorships

Jazz Festival is an annual event hosted by Eldorado High School and UNM, and involves dozens of jazz bands from all over the city and state.  As such, it takes a ton of planning, volunteers, and financial resources to pull it off.  One of the main ways we raise money for this event is through sponsorships.  Note that this is different than our full-seasons sponsors that we get over the summer - this is sponsorship of this specific event.

We still have some work to do - we really need your help to find some more sponsorships!

All the details, including a sponsorship letter that can be provided to potential businesses and a form they can use to be a sponsor, are available below (and always on the Jazz Festival site):

2024 Jazz Festival Sponsorship Letter

2024 Jazz Festival Sponsorship Form

Please go to your dentists, orthodontists, auto shops, favorite restaurants, family and friend owned businesses, etc. and ask them if they would be willing to sponsor this event.  With students and family members from 40+ schools attending over 3 days, its a ton of great exposure.  Provide them the letter and form, which gives them all the information they need to support this great community event.

The deadline to sponsor this event is Jan 26, 2024.

Don't have a business, but still want to donate?  You can provide a general donation via the same form.

If you have any questions, you can ask our Jazz Festival chairs, Beth and Liz, at jazzfestival@eldorado.band.  THANKS FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Jazz Festival Concessions

We will have a concession table at the Jazz Festival and rely on donations from our band families.  We have it divided by grade level to make things a little easier. Everything needs to be individually wrapped.  Please bring donations to the band room over these next few weeks. This is a great fundraiser for the band, so thanks in advance for your help.

Freshmen - Sodas (No energy drinks, please); Also, we do NOT need bottled water donations

Sophomores - Sweets; candy, candy bars, rice crispy treats, cookies, etc.

Juniors - Salty snacks; chips & crackers of all types, etc.

Seniors - Sweets; candy, candy bars, rice crispy treats, cookies, etc.

Charms Retirement

This week, you should receive this newsletter both via Charms AND via Cut Time.  If you do not receive a text message from the Cut Time number letting you know this newsletter is out, please let me know ASAP.  I intend to only send to both systems this week, so if you do not get both, after this week, you wont receive anything.

The instructions on what to expect with regards to onboarding in Cut Time can be found on the Cut Time Onboarding sub page of the Charms Retirement page.

NOTE: If you have not yet received an onboarding text message from the Cut Time system yet, that means your phone number contact information is incorrect.  You will need to fill out the Contact Information Form or email me at president@eldorado.band as soon as possible to ensure that your contact information is correct and you wont have any delays in communication from us.

Thanks again for your patience and assistance in making this transition as smoothly as possible.

Remember - for this school year, Cut Time will ONLY be used for announcements.  Fees and events will come next year.

Student Accounts

We are less than 2 MONTHS away from the 3/6/24 deadline to have ALL fees paid.  Please make sure you are staying on top of your student accounts.  Statements will be going out this week.

NOTE: If your student travelled to Las Cruces for Jazz All-State, the travel costs have been added to the accounts.

A couple of reminders regarding accounts and fees:

Volunteer Opportunities

There are AMPLE opportunities to volunteer for Jazz Festival - it takes a small army to pull of those 3 days.  The schedule is broken up into small, manageable time chunks that hopefully fit in to most schedules.  The jobs include everything from Apparel sales, concessions, director check-in, ticket sales, to setup/cleanup.  Please checkout the signup schedule below and grab your slot today!

As always, all signups are available on the Volunteering page.

Have a great week!

Go Eagles!

AND a word from Mr. Sayre...

Hello Eagle Band Community!

Congrats to those of you that participated in the NMMEA Jazz Allstate performances this last weekend.  We are SO proud of your accomplishments and we can't wait to see what you are going to accomplish in the future.

Jazz Fest is coming up and is less than a month away! We will have THREE full days of bands this year and will have a special surprise for the afternoon on Saturday of the event that we want all of you to attend that will feature many of the music teachers in the Rio Rancho and Albuquerque area.  Be on the lookout for sign ups for the event.  I offer a challenge to YOU the band that whoever gets the most amount of donations gets to choose one of the pieces for our end of year concert for whatever band you play in (color guard will get a prize from Mr. Sayre).

Basketball Band starts soon.  Mr. Sayre will post a roster for bands. Dates are January 30th, February 2nd, February 7th, February 10th (Tentative), February 13th, February 24th. Call time is 45 minutes before tip off. We will have a pep band rehearsal on Friday this week for Zero Hour.

Here is a link to the plan I am posting on the NEW Promethian board in the band room. Here is a link to the plan in the old format. The student leaders and officers will be revamping the information board and I will be changing how we display information in the hall soon.

GO EAGLES!
