AND a word from Mr. Sayre...
Hello Eagle Band Community!
Congrats on a successful performance at Popejoy for the Wind Ensemble and the Winter Guard at the Rio Rancho Winter Guard Competition. This week we have our Music Performance Assessment Festival on Thursday.
Here are what we should look forward to in the coming weeks:
MPA for EHS is on March 14th - Here is our Itinerary for the day. Permission forms went out on Friday.
We will meet at the end of Lunch on Thursday in the band room then get on buses to go to Manzano HS. All 3 concert bands will be going. You will wear your concert tux. All members of the band must stay the whole day.
Academic Awards Ceremony - March 11th. We will need a small brass or woodwind ensemble to play for this event. The small chamber brass ensemble will play the National Anthem and some live music to open the event.
NMMEA Solo and Ensemble Festival April 13th - Soon we will start preparing and registering for the Solo and Ensemble Festival! This is a unique and long-standing festival where students prepare a solo (with accompaniment) or small ensemble of players and they perform for a judge. This will give you the opportunity to develop independent and small ensemble playing and make music with your friends. If you prepared the etude for Allstate or Zero Hour band auditions you definitely have what it takes to put on a performance at the Solo and Ensemble Festival. Regardless of whether you are participating in the festival we will be working on solos and small ensembles after MPA so you might as well sign up! I will need to register people by MARCH 21st.
There are a few rules and considerations as you prepare a performance for the event
If you are looking for a piece of music yourself you must acquire legal arrangements and compositions with original published printed parts for the judge to use. This is a copyright consideration that NMMEA must follow.
We have a whole file cabinet full of solos and small ensemble books. Look through it and see if you can find something that would work for you and your friends.
The majority of work preparing for this must be done by you or you and your group that is performing. Part of this festival’s intent is to give you the opportunity to showcase your individual effort which includes managing rehearsing with you and your friends.
If you pick a solo that has an accompanist part (piano part) you need to find an accompanist. The directors can help you with a list of names. I must have your accompanist’s name in order to register you for the festival. If you’re curious why- when we put the schedule together we have to be conscientious of accompanists that accompany multiple students being able to make it to each time slot.
If you plan on playing a long piece (concerto, or piece longer than 8 minutes) you need to get 2 time slots.
Here is the plan for next week.
GO EAGLES!
